Fiona is the advisor for the female players of the Detroit Urban Brawl Ball team named "Nightmares". One of the bookies at "Loaded Dice" informed Samantha that the Nightmares were in need of a mage that could magically heal for short term work. He put her in contact with someone, whom put her in contact with Fiona.

 

Samantha worked for her for 3 weeks doing magical healing for the team until their regular mage returned (from vacation). That was three months in the past.

It's during this time that Samantha learned that Fiona is mute, and thus they know each other both knows Sign Language, as well as Samantha sharing that she knows "mindlink" and can communicate far quicker in emergency situations where lots of info is needed to be exchanged very fast (serious injuries, etc).

During Samantha's working for the team she traveled around the world with the team on their plane. It's during these times that Fiona picked up on Samantha's aggitation around men when they flirt with her. To the point that she became nearly violent with one of the guys that wouldn't take no for an answer while in the hotel lobby in Madrid.
